MEAC Cross Country Championship Set For This Weekend

2009 MEAC Cross Country Championship Media Credential Application

The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) will host its 2009 Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships on Saturday, October 31 on the campus of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Anne, Maryland.

The host and reigning MEAC women's cross country champion Maryland Eastern Shore Lady Hawks  will compete for their third consecutive title and fourth overall. Junior Tamica Thomas and Senior Celia Whyte have led the way as the top two finishers for the Lady Hawks throughout the season. Thomas won the Delaware State Invite with a time of 19:27.47 while Whyte was a close second with a finish of 19:27.78. 

Norfolk State freshman Aurora Scott has the fastest time this season in the MEAC on a 5K course with a time of 18:27 that she posted at the Great American Cross Country Festival-HBCU Challenge.

On the men's side, the Norfolk State Spartans will vie for their second straight title and ninth overall.  Sophomore Philemon Kimutai has paced the Spartans with four top five finishes this season including victories at the William & Mary Colonial Inter-Regional Invite and the Great American Cross Country Festival-HBCU Challenge. His time of 24:46 at the Great American Cross Country Festival-HBCU Challenge is the fastest MEAC time this season on a 8K course.

The 2009 MEAC Cross Country Championships will begin with the women's 5K race at 9:45 a.m. followed by the men's 8K race at 10:30 a.m.  The event is free and open to the public.

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore which is located on One Backbone Road in Princess Anne, Maryland will also host the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Cross Country Regionals on Saturday, November 14.

Saturday, October 31 is "Adopt A Team Day". Fans are encouraged to wear their favorite institution's colors to cheer on their favorite teams.
