Armstead, Copley Lead NSU over N.C. A&T. 3-1

Charlotte Armstead and Tracey Copley each had 12 kills to help lead the Norfolk State volleyball team to a 3-1 win over North Carolina A&T on Friday night at the Corbett Sports Center. NSU won 25-9, 23-25, 25-18, 25-13.

Armstead added five total blocks (four solo) and Copley had nine digs and three service aces.

NSU improved to 5-18 overall and 2-2 in the MEAC with the win, while N.C. A&T fell to 1-25, 0-3.

The Spartans made quick work of the Lady Aggies in the first set by limiting them to just nine points. A&T rallied to tie the match at 1-1 in the second set, but NSU dominated the last two sets for the win.

Tiffany Mellette led all players with 14 kills and added eight digs for A&T. Amber Inman had 30 assists and nine digs, while Bridget McCaskill had 10 digs.

For NSU, Angie Clewis hit .421 with 10 kills and 2.5 blocks. Nicole Kessner  tallied 42 assists and had six kills and six digs, and Solange Honore had a match-high 19 digs.

The Spartans continue their swing through the Tar Heel state when they take on Winston-Salem State at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
