Winston-Salem State (4-26) found points hard to come by in a three-set loss to the Bethune-Cookman Lady Wildcats (8-11), Friday evening. After battling the Lady Wildcats in a classic match in Winston-Salem, N.C. earlier this season, the Lady Rams continued their road struggles with 20 attack errors and only 18 kills in the loss.
The road was not kind to the Lady Rams as the team finished the match with a -.027 hitting percentage in the loss. The Lady Rams did have a solid defensive effort, holding Bethune-Cookman to 36 kills, but the 20 attack errors proved too costly in the loss.
WSSU senior hitter Annika Barnwell led the way for the Lady Rams with nine kills in the match. She also led the Lady Rams with five digs. No Lady Rams broke double-digit kills in the match. Sophomore setter Alexandria Brown added 14 assists in the loss.
The Lady Rams will return to action on Sunday when they host the Norfolk State Spartans in a Sunday afternoon match at the C.E. Gaines Center.
