MEAC Announces Volleyball Weekly Honors

Delaware State senior Cassandra Joyner was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Player of the week, the conference announced on Monday. Florida A&M's Pamela Barrera earned Rookie of the Week accolades.

Joyner (OH, 5-11, Sr., Claymont, Delaware) guided her team to two conference victories last week. The outside hitter tallied 31 kills on 59 attacks while hitting 40-percent from the floor. In a five set win over Howard, Joyner posted 18 kills, seven digs, three aces and three blocks. She followed that performance with a double-double of 13 kills and 13 digs while hitting 48-percent from the floor in a 3-0 victory against Morgan State.

Barrera (OH, 6-1, Fr., Lima, Peru) hit 42-percent from the field with 12 kills on 19 attacks to guide the Lady Rattlers to a 2-0 mark last week. The outside hitter added four blocks (two solo), one ace and two digs in the defensive effort.

Other Top Performers:

Charlotte Armstead (NSU) hit 37-percent from the field and added eight kills and two blocks in a 3-1 loss to South Carolina State.

Mianna Armstrong (Ham) posted a double-double of 10 kills and 15 digs in a win over Howard.

Jovana Blazeski (FAMU) averaged 15 kills and 5.5 digs per match to aid the Lady Rattlers to a 2-0 mark last week.

Erin Cox (MSU) recorded a career-high 26 kills and added three aces in a 3-0 win over Coppin State.

Gazelle d'Artois (How) recorded a triple double of 15 kills, 10 assists and 10 digs in a 3-2 loss to Delaware State.

Jarne Gleaton (SCSU) averaged 13 kills and eight digs per match and totaled four aces, one assist and two blocks in two victories for the Lady Bulldogs.

Whitney Johnson (UMES) was 25-of-46 from the floor (39-percent) and added five digs and three aces to lead the Lady Hawks to a 2-0 mark in MEAC play last week.

Nicole Kessner (NSU) hit 52-percent from the floor with nine kills and added 23 assists and 11 digs in a 3-1 loss to James Madison.

Bella Jade Romero (UMES) totaled 59 assists and six digs to aid the Lady Hawks to a 2-0 conference mark last week.

Jessica Wilson (B-CU) contributed 10 kills and 10 digs while hitting 47-percent from the floor in a 3-0 sweep of North Carolina A&T.

Elizabeth Webb (SCSU) totaled 11 kills, 11 digs, five aces, two assists and two blocks last week for the Lady Bulldogs.

Brittany Wynne (Ham) tallied a double-double of 15 kills and 14 digs in a win against Howard.
