MEAC Announces Volleyball Weekly Honors

Howard junior Gazelle d'Artois was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Player of the week, the conference announced on Monday. Florida A&M's Pamela Barrera earned Rookie of the Week accolades.

d'Artois (OH, 5-10, Jr., Newhall, California) recorded 51 kills while hitting 48-percent from the floor to aid the Lady Bison to a 2-1 mark last week including a 2-0 record in MEAC play. In a loss to Lafayette, the outside hitter posted a double-double of 19 kills and 17 digs. She tallied a 63-percent hitting percentage in a 3-0 sweep of Coppin State and followed that performance with 20 kills on 35 attacks in a win over Morgan State. This is the third straight week that d'Artois has earned Player of the Week accolades.

Barrera (OH, 6-1, Fr., Lima, Peru) hit 41-percent from the field with 34 kills on 62 attacks to guide the Lady Rattlers to a 3-0 mark including a 2-0 record in MEAC play last week. The outside hitter added six blocks (one solo), five aces and 12 digs in the defensive effort for FAMU.

Other Top Performers:

Charlotte Armstead (NSU) hit 47-percent from the field and added 12 kills and four aces in a 3-0 sweep of Alabama State.

Mianna Armstrong (Ham) posted a double-double of 14 kills and 12 digs in a win over Coppin State.

Jovana Blazeski (FAMU) totaled 45 kills and 32 digs to aid the Lady Rattler to a 3-0 record last week.

Janeen Davis (B-CU) was 10-of-23 from the floor (43.5 percent) in a 3-2 win over South Carolina State.

Christine Edwards (UMES) totaled 23 kills, nine digs and four aces in two conference victories for the Lady Hawks last week.  

Elayne Greer (NSU) posted 14 kills and hit 56-percent from the floor in a loss to Florida A&M.

Jasmine King (How) averaged 34.6 assists per match and collected six aces in three matches for the Lady Bison.

Bella Jade Romero (UMES) totaled 67 assists, 11 digs and added six aces to aid the Lady Hawks to a 2-0 conference mark last week.

Ashley Saunders (CSU) recorded 20 kills and seven digs in a 3-2 victory over North Carolina Central.

Ivana Suput (Ham) led the defensive effort for Hampton with 33 digs in two matches.

Erica Tajchman (DSU) posted 44 kills, 32 digs and 10 aces in three matches for the Lady Hornets last week.

Chelle Ticeson (B-CU) guided the Lady Wildcats to a 2-0 mark last week with 24 kills and 16 digs.
