MEAC Announces Women's Basketball Weekly Honors

Coppin State University’s Whitney Cunningham was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. University of Maryland Eastern Shore’s Amber Cook earned Rookie of the Week honors, while teammate April McBride earned Defensive Player of the Week accolades.

 

Cunningham (Center, 6-3, Sr., Baltimore, Maryland) averaged a double-double of 15 points and 18.5 rebounds to help the Lady Eagles to a 1-1 mark last week. In their first victory of the season, Cunningham tallied 16 points, 13 rebounds, three blocks and one steal. In a 56-53 loss to Morgan State, she recorded a MEAC season-high 24 rebounds along with 14 points, two assists, one block and one steal.

 

Cook (Guard, 5-8, Fr., Greensboro, North Carolina) posted seven points (2-of-6), four rebounds and two assists in a non-conference win against Morgan State.

 

McBride (Forward, 6-0, Jr., New Rochelle, New York) averaged 12 rebounds, three steals and 1.5 blocks to aid the Lady Hawks to a 1-1 mark last week. Against Morgan State, she recorded eight rebounds, two steals one block and one assist. She followed that performance with 16 rebounds, four steals and two blocked shots in a loss to Kent State. Offensively, she averaged 13.5 points during the two games.

Corin Adams (MSU) scored a game-high 21 points along with five rebounds, six assists and three steals in a conference win over Coppin State.

 

Sarah Bolden (B-CU) led her team with 16 points and 11 rebounds in a one-point loss to Savannah State.

 

Zykia Brown (HOW) tallied a career-high 26 points in a loss to Colgate.

 

Tamaya Daniels (HOW) posted a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds against Monmouth.

 

Stephanie Foster (FAMU) averaged 16.5 points and eight rebounds to aid the Lady Rattlers to a 1-1 mark last week.

 

Demetria Frank (B-CU) contributed 16 points, seven rebounds, four steals and one block, in a 57-58 loss to Savannah State.

 

Marie Reid (SCSU) averaged 23.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in two games for the Lady Bulldogs last week.

 

Casey Morton (UMES) led the Lady Hawks with 18 points in a non-conference win over Morgan State.
