MEAC ANNOUNCES MEN'S BASKETBALL WEEKLY HONORS

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., January 5, 2009 ? Bethune-Cookman’s C.J. Reed was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.  Chris McHenry of Howard was selected as the Rookie of the Week while Norfolk State’s Brandon Monroe was named the Defensive Player of the Week.

Reed (G, 6-3, 175, Fr., Daytona Beach, Fla.) averaged 18.5 points in two non-conference meetings last week for the Wildcats.  Against Savannah State Reed recorded 14 points, three rebounds and a game-high four steals.  He followed that performance with 23 points, connecting on 10-of-23 baskets, with two rebounds and three assists in a one-point loss to The Citadel (57-58).  The league-leader in minutes played, Reed averaged 37.5 minutes in the team’s last two outings. 

McHenry (G, 5-11, 175, Fr., Milwaukee, Wis.) scored a combined 54 points in four matchups last week for the Bison.  Against Wyoming, McHenry recorded 29 points, connecting on 8-of-16 from the field and 11-of-11 from the charity stripe.  He also recorded 18 points against LaSalle, shooting 7-of-11 from the floor and 4-of-5 from 3-point range.  For the week McKenry averaged 2.8 boards, two blocked shots, 1.5 assists and 1.3 steals while shooting perfectly from the free-throw line (13-of-13) in the four games. 

Monroe (F, 6-7, 215, Jr., Raeford, N.C.) registered a career-high 13 rebounds along with four steals and one blocked shot as the Spartans snapped a 10-game losing skid with a 76-54 win over Lethbridge.  He aided the Spartans as they out-rebounded Lethbridge 52-33 and held UL to just 34.5 shooting and five second-chance points.  Offensively he added 13 points to his all-around stat line.

Chris Connor (UMES) posted 11 points and three rebounds in the Hawks defeat to Nebraska.

Michael Deloach (NSU) helped NSU snap a 10-game losing streak with a game-high 19 points against Lethbridge.

Michael Harper (CSU) recorded a combined 21 points, nine rebounds and eight assists in the Eagles two non-conference matchups last week.

Kwame Morgan (HAM) averaged 13.0 points to help the Pirates finish 1-1 last week including a 58-56 non-conference win over Yale. 

Neal Pitt (UMES) posted 18 points, three rebounds, one assist and one block in the Hawks loss to Nebraska.

Alexander Starling (B-CU) averaged 10 points and 9.5 rebounds in the Wildcats two non-conference games last week.

Chris Tolson (HAM) recorded 21 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals in the Pirates win over Yale.
