Jeanine Manley scored a career-high 14 points and Coppin State used clutch free throw shooting down the stretch to hold off Bethune-Cookman 67-58 in a MEAC game on Saturday in Moore Gymnasium.
The Eagles made 12-of-14 free throws in the final 1:30 of the game to hold off a Wildcat rally. Coppin State, which entered the contest shooting 58.5 percent from the free throw line, made 17-of-24 attempts for the game and shot 70.8 percent.
Manley, who also grabbed a career-high eight rebounds, finished the game 6-of-8 from the floor in reaching double figures for the first time in her career. She also was 2-of-3 from the free throw line and had a blocked shot.
Coppin State (3-11 overall, 2-2 MEAC) posted its 10th-straight victory against Bethune-Cookman and its sixth-straight win in Daytona Beach.
The Eagles shot a season-high 48.1 percent from the floor to overcome 27 turnovers and 26 fouls.
Bethune-Cookman (6-8, 0-4 MEAC) was led by Demetria Frank who scored 18 points, while Sarah Bolden had 17 and Jasmine Daniels scored 16.
Coppin State also received 12 points and five rebounds from Whitney Cunningham and 10 points from Lakeytah Irving.
The Eagles survived a cold stretch in the first period and used a late run to take control of the game.
After Shante Cummings connected on a layup that cut the Bethune-Cookman lead to 11-10 with 12:07 to play the Eagles would go 3:59 before scoring their next point.
A pair of free throws by Keturah Newkirk gave Bethune-Cookman a 15-10 lead with 8:08 to play in the half.
Manley ended the drought with a conventional three-point play and Sesalie Johnson tied the game at 15-15 with a jumper in the lane.
A three-point play by Cunningham gave the Eagles a 20-17 lead with 5:47 left in the opening half.
Bolden cut the lead to 20-19 with a layup, but the Eagles closed the half on a 10-0 run to take a 30-19 lead into the half. Manley and Crystal Whittington each contributed four points during the run.
Coppin State behind baskets by Cunningham, Irving and Tanezia Harden increased the lead to 40-23 with 14:57 left in the game.
Bethune-Cookman responded with a 6-0 run to cut the lead to 40-29, but the Eagles answered with a 6-0 run of their own to increase the lead to 46-29 with 9:29 left in the game.
Back-to-back layups by Johnson and Cunningham gave the Eagles their largest lead of the game at 52-34 with 5:43 left.
The Wildcats then mounted a furious comeback to get back into the game.
Daniels scored seven points during an 18-3 run that brought Bethune-Cookman to within 57-54 with 1:31 left in the game.
The Eagles answered the challenge by making 12-of-14 free throws down the stretch to clinch the win.
