MEAC Announces Volleyball Weekly Honors

University of Maryland Eastern Shore junior Whitney Johnson was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday. South Carolina State’s Bria Brimmer earned Rookie of the Week accolades.

 

Johnson (OH/MB, 6-3, Jr., Prince Frederick, Maryland) averaged 15.3 kills per match and a hitting percentage of .333 aiding the Lady Hawks to a 2-1 mark at the Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) Tournament. In a win over UMBC, the outside hitter tallied 25 kills on 46 attacks (.435). She followed that performance with 16 kills in a 3-1 victory over Niagara en route to all-tournament honors.

 

Brimmer (S, 5-6, Fr., Austin, Texas) was named to the All-Tournament team after recording 102 assists and 21 digs in four matches at the High Point Tournament. The setter notched three 20-plus assist performances, averaging 25.5 assists per match.

 

Other Top Performers:

 

Breanna Allums (NSU) totaled 24 kills and 25 digs in three matches played at the UNC-Charlotte 49ers Tournament.

 

Mianna Armstrong (HAM) posted 13 kills on 21 attacks (.571) in a loss to UNC-Asheville.

 

Erin Cox (MSU) recorded 14 kills and hit .345 from the floor in a loss to Missouri-Kansas City.

 

Grace DeMichelis (HOW) recorded back-to-back 20-plus assist performances at the UNC-Charlotte 49ers Tournament.

 

Christine Edwards (UMES) helped the Lady Hawks to a 2-1 record with 49 kills and 38 digs at the UMBC Tournament.

 

Martina Ferrari (DSU) averaged 16 assists and 8.7 digs for the Hornets at the Fairleigh Dickinson Invitational.

 

Maria Gomez (FAMU) led Florida A&M with 14 kills in a 3-1 loss to #23 Long Beach State.

 

Aaryn Harrison (HAM) was just shy of a double-double with 16 kills and nine digs in a 3-2 loss to Radford at the USC-Upstate Tournament.

 

Gabrielle Martin (HOW) recorded a double-double of 13 kills and 10 digs in a 3-1 loss to UNC-Charlotte.

 

Erica Tajchman (DSU) posted 21 kills on 42 attacks (.500) and added 11 digs in the Hornets win over St. Peter’s College.

Erica Turnball (MSU) averaged a .417 hitting percentage in a 3-2 loss to Florida Atlantic.
