Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (0-5) continued their recent struggles to open the season as the team took an 0-3 loss to the Charleston Southern Lady Buccaneers (1-4) in the Runnin’ Bulldogs Classic hosted by Gardner-Webb. Errors plagued the Lady Rams in the loss with the team totaling a -.077 attack percentage in the loss.
As a team, the Lady Rams notched 18 kills with 24 errors in the loss with WSSU sophomore Ashley Harris leading the way for the Lady Rams with five kills in the loss. WSSU senior Valentina Pushkina and WSSU junior outside hitter Annika Barnwell added four kills each in the loss. WSSU sophomore Erica Cole led the WSSU defensive effort with seven digs in the match.
The silver lining in the match was freshman Asia Carr’s nine assists after some early struggles to open the season. Her nine assists mark a season-high for WSSU players.
The Lady Rams won’t have long to recover as the team will take on the host Gardner-Webb Runnin’ Bulldogs in the final match of the tournament.
