Youngstown State Drops Norfolk State, 3-0

The Norfolk State volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Youngstown State on Friday afternoon at the Comfort Suites 49ers Tournament at Halton Arena. YSU won the match 25-15, 25-10, 25-22.

 

YSU (2-2) used large scoring runs in the first two sets to outdo NSU (1-4) and the Penguins held off the Spartans in the third set to seal the win.

 

In the third set, NSU tied it at 11-all on a kill by Breanna Allums but the YSU answered with a kill by Allison Heinz and the

Penguins never looked back. The Spartans could get no closer than two, 19-17, the rest of the way.

 

Allums led the Spartans effort with seven kills and added six digs. Nicole Kessner had 18 assists, six kills and six digs. Yolanda Roberts also had six kills.

 

Ebony Barbosa had nine kills and nine digs and Karla Everhart had a match-high 26 assists for YSU.

 

The Spartans play tournament host UNC-Charlotte at 12:30 p.m. and Howard at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
