Winston-Salem State earned a berth in the championship match of the 2008 WSSU Lady Rams Volleyball Invitational on Saturday afternoon following an impressive 3-0 (28-26, 25-17, 25-18) victory over the Lady Falcons of Saint Augustine’s College in the tournament semi-finals.
WSSU earned a hard-fought 28-26 victory in the first game of the match as WSSU tallied 17 kills and recorded a .243 attack percentage en route to an early 1-0 lead.
Taking advantage of their opportunities, the Lady Rams refused to allow the Lady Falcons back into the match as WSSU handed Saint Augustine’s College back-to-back losses in games two and three with scores of 25-17 and 25-18 as WSSU improved to 3-1 in the 2008 edition of the Lady Rams Invitational.
Leading the way for WSSU was Annika Barnwell with 12 kills. Barnwell was joined in double-digit kills by Ashley Harris who recorded 11 kills in the victory.
The victory improves WSSU to 4-10 on the season and earns the Lady Rams a title match with the Lady Hawks of the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore. The Lady Hawks are a perfect 4-0 in tournament play. The two teams will take to the court at 1:30 p.m.
