University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Women's Bowling Head Coach Sharon Brummell is proud to announce the hiring of Doug Dukes as assistant coach for the upcoming 2008-09 season.
Dukes has been involved with the UMES program for the past five years in a volunteer capacity.
He played an integral role in the Lady Hawks' 2007-08 NCAA National Championship.
"Doug took an interest in the team and started working with our girls a little bit," said Brummell. "He's really good with the technical aspect of the bowling."
In 2004, he helped guide the Lady Hawks to their first ever NCAA Championship, where UMES finished seventh.
By age 17, Dukes held a USA Junior Olympic Level I (1998) certification. He is also a Silver Certified United States Bowling Congress (USBC) coach, which are the only coaches recognized by the US Olympic Committee.
Dukes is the first individual in the US Olympic Committee to hold these certifications at such a young age.
Dukes plays a vital role in increasing player awareness and lane playability when it comes to game-day athletic performance. Some of his other responsibilities will include setting up practice and workout schedules, while handling all ball drilling and equipment modifications.
He is also the owner of Advanced Coaching Solutions in Millsboro, Del.
The company implements detailed coaching programs, while hosting the most sophisticated coaching facility on the upper east coast. He manages the programs integrity and uniformity by having two coaches on staff. He is also the assistant manager at Millsboro Lanes, which plays host to 986 league bowlers.
