MEAC Announces Volleyball Weekly Honors

University of Maryland Eastern Shore senior Christina Estebane’ was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday. Howard University freshman Gabrielle Martin earned Rookie of the Week honors.

 

Estebane’ (S, 5-6, Sr., El Paso, Texas) recorded a triple double of 10 kills, 33 assists and 13 digs and hit 45-percent from the field in a win over Elon. Estebane’ averaged 27.75 assists and 12.75 digs to aid her team to a 3-1 record at the William & Mary Colonial Classic. The setter did not commit an attack error in three of four matches played and earned all-tournament accolades. This is Estebane’s third Player of the Week honor this season.

 

Martin (MB, 5-11, Fr., Stockton, California) led her team to a 2-2 mark at the LaGuardia Courtyard Classic, hosted by Long Island. The middle blocker averaged 14.5 kills and 15 digs in four sets last week for the Lady Bison.  In a 3-2 win over Long Island, Martin tallied five solo blocks and added 10 digs. This is Martin’s second Rookie of the Week honor this season.

 

Other Top Performers:

 

Dina Beamon (MSU) averaged 9.3 digs per match and earned all-tournament honors at the East Carolina Tournament.

 

Jovana Blazeski (FAMU) averaged a double-double of 14.5 kills and 19.5 digs at the Clemson Invite last week.

 

Erin Cox (MSU) posted seven kills, four digs and four blocks (one solo) in a loss to East Carolina.

 

Gazelle D’Artois (HOW) earned all-tournament honors at the LaGuardia Courtyard Classic after posting 51 kills and 40 digs in four sets for the Lady Bison.

 

Christine Edwards (UMES) averaged 9.5 kills and 5.25 digs in four matches last week.

 

Jarne Gleaton (SCSU) averaged 8.75 kills and 5.5 digs in the South Carolina State Spikefest.

 

Aaryn Harrison (HAM) earned all-tournament honors at the South Carolina State Spikefest after tallying 43 kills and 17 digs in four matches played.

 

Peri Ligons (SCSU) posted a double-double of 11 kills and 16 digs in a 3-1 loss to the Citadel.
