Spartans Drop Two At Western Carolina Invite

Norfolk State team dropped two matches in the Western Carolina Catamount Clash on Friday. The Spartans (2-12) fell 3-0 to Western Carolina (25-22, 25-18, 25-21) and 3-1 to Presbyterian (25-20, 25-15, 21-25, 25-21).

WCU (1-10) earned its first win of the seasons by defeating the Spartans in a closely played match. NSU got within two, 24-22, on an attack error by Carrie Minogue, but an error by Elyane Greer sealed the
first-set win for the Catamounts. WCU took the two remaining sets to end the hour and 25-minute affair.


The match against Presbyterian (3-6) was very competitive. After losing the first two sets, the Spartans rallied to win the third set. A kill by Jourdan Ellison broke a 13-all tie and the Spartans did not look
back. But Presbyterian won the fourth set 25-21 to take the match.

On the day for NSU, Breanna Allums tallied 24 kills, 19 digs and 3.5 blocks, while Angie Clewis totaled 20
kills, seven digs, and 3.5 blocks. Solange Honore had 66 assists and 18 digs in the two matches and Yolanda Roberts had a total of 18 kills and 17 digs.


NSU plays Arkansas State at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
