Aggies Fall To Appalachian State, Wake Forest

North Carolina A&T did not have a pleasant end to the 2008 Appalachian State Volleyball Invitational at the Holmes Center. The Aggies opened the day with a loss to host Appalachian State 3-0 (25-11, 12, 13).

The Aggies concluded the invitational with a 3-0 loss (25-9, 17, 12) to Wake Forest. Janae Mitchell led the Aggies against the Mountaineers with eight kills. Tiffany Mellette, who had to share the setter duties because of the absence of freshman starter Jordan Gray, had four kills, six assists and seven digs.

Mellette had six kills, 10 assists and four digs in the loss to Wake Forest. Aundia Gray added six kills and junior libero Stacey Malone added 14 digs as the Aggies fell to 1-14 on the season.

They return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 23 when they travel to UNC Asheville to play the Bulldogs. There will be a 10-day layoff for the Aggies before conference play begins on Oct. 3 against Norfolk State.

“We’re looking forward to conference play,’’ said N.C. A&T head coach Lyndsay Schmiedel. “We have had a rough time with a very tough non-conference schedule, but I can see subtle improvements in this team. Hopefully, we can put it all together in October against our conference competition.”
