Lady Rams Battle Back for First Win of the Season

The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (1-7) defeated the St. Augustine’s Lady Falcons (1-5), Thursday evening at Emery Gymnasium in Raleigh, NC. After taking a loss in the opening set, the Lady Rams battled for three straight set wins to close out the match.

 

The Lady Rams found themselves in a bit of early trouble, falling to the Lady Falcons, 25-18 in the first set. After going into extra points in both the second and third sets of the match, the Lady Rams ran away with the third set win, the Lady Rams pulled out the win by scores of 27-25, 26-24, and 25-18.

 

The match was easily the best effort of the season for the Lady Rams as the team posted a season-high 39 kills and a .093 hitting percentage for the contest. WSSU junior outside hitter Annika Barnwell led the attack with 11 kills despite battling injury. Lady Ram junior Ashley Harris added eight kills in the match as well. Junior setter Lore McBroom coordinated the Lady Rams’ effort with a season-high 19 assists in the match.

 

The Lady Rams will get a much deserved rest after the loss as the team will not take the court again until a Tuesday match at Elon.
