The Norfolk State volleyball team dropped its last two games of the 2008 Wake Forest Deacon Invitational on Saturday, falling 3-0 to both Wake Forest (3-0) and Davidson (1-2) at Reynolds Gym. Wake Forest downed the Spartans 25-11, 25-8, 25-17 and Davidson won 25-18, 25-19, 25-15.
Against Wake Forest, freshman Breanna Allums led all players with seven kills, but the Spartans could not overcome the Demon Deacons' accurate hitting and powerful defense. Wake Forest hit .387 as a team and had 42 digs and six total blocks (three solo).
NSU (0-3) played a much better match against Davidson, but the Wildcats were able to hold off the Spartans for the win. Junior Angie Clewis had four kills, a match-high four service aces, 1.5 blocks and two digs. Senior Shardonay Blueford led the Spartans with five kills.
For her efforts in the tournament NSU junior Aurelia Isham was named to the all-tournament team. In three games, she totaled 10 kills and 18 digs.
The Spartans host Virginia State in their home opener on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Echols Hall.
