The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (0-3) volleyball ended the Hawthorn Suites Hokie Invitational on a down note as the team suffered a 3-0 loss to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Lady Hawks (1-2). For the third straight match, the Lady Rams posted a negative attack percentage and ended the tournament without winning a set.
As a team, the Lady Rams posted a -.114 attack percentage in the loss and totaled 12 kills in the match. It was the tandem of WSSU freshman middle hitter Jasmine Frazier and junior outside hitter Annika Barnwell who led the Lady Ram attack with three kills each in the match. WSSU junior utility Valentina Pushkina led coordinated the Lady Rams’ efforts with nine assists in the match.
The loss left the Lady Rams in fourth place for the tournament, but all was not lost for the Lady Rams. WSSU sophomore outside hitter Ashley Harris was named to the all-tournament team for her efforts.
The Lady Rams will have a week to rest as the team will take part in the Runnin’ Bulldog Invitational tournament hosted by Gardner-Webb University next weekend.
