The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) women’s basketball program is excited to welcome Adobi Agbasi (6-0, C, Columbus, Ga./Carver High School) and Lauren Griffith (6-0, F, Toronto, Canada, Eastern Commerce Collegiate Institute) to the 2008-2009 roster.
Agbasi is a team player who in her senior year averaged a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds per game. She also helped guide her team to an elite eight appearance, while averaging five blocks and two assists per game. The Lady Hawks hope she will prove to be a force in the paint.
“She is going to add a lot of help on the defensive end,” says Associate Head Coach Revonda Whitley. “We are excited to have Adobi.”
As a three sport athlete, Agbasi had a combined total of seven letters in volleyball, track and basketball. She has also played with the Columbus, Ga. Blazer traveling team. She is the daughter of Florence and Emmanuel Agbasi, and has one brother, Ify.
Griffith has one goal for this coming season, consistency. She helped her high school team capture the Provincial Championship.
“Lauren has high energy and is strong,” said Whitley. “She loves to play with her back to the basket.
On the club level for the Advantage Titans in the Ontario Basketball Association League, Griffith led her team to a bronze medal. She is actively involved, having organized a basketball charity event to raise money for the Save Darfur Coalition.
