MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY SOFTBALL HONORS

 Bethune-Cookman pitcher/infielder Allison Garcia earned MEAC Softball Player of the Week honors, the league announced Monday. Jeannette Sauceda of Norfolk State was named Rookie of the Week while North Carolina A&T State’s Jennifer Luper was named the Pitcher of the Week.

Garcia (P/IF, 5-7, Fr., Chino Hills, Calif.) posted a solid all around performance last week with a 1.01 ERA in her pitching role as well as a .529 batting average in five games last week. Garcia finished perfect on the mound with four wins. She collected 19 strikeouts while allowing just four walks. From the plate she slugged in two home runs in addition to four doubles and five RBI in 17 appearances.

Sauceda (3B/1B. 5-8, Fr., Ontario, Calif.) hit .308 with two doubles, five RBI and three walks in five wins for the Spartans. Sauceda batted .500 in the final game of a three-game home stand, finishing 1-of-2 from the plate with one double and three RBI. She also tallied seven putouts and four assists last week.

Luper (P, 5-6, So., Fort Mill, SC) finished with a 0.64 ERA, allowing 11 hits and one walk in 11 innings as she posted a perfect 2-0 week for the Lady Aggies. She faced 48 batters and struck out eight. Against South Carolina State she faced 17 batters in four innings giving up five hits, no runs or walks with two strikeouts.

Other Top Performers

Ky Brown (NSU) finished 2-0 with a 2.80 ERA with eight strikeouts in 10 innings.

Nicole Demers (DSU) was perfect against Maryland E. Shore hitting 5-of-5, including one double and one RBI, in the two wins.

Joyce Harold (FAMU) went 5-of-9 from the plate to post a .555 average including three home runs and four RBI.

Chelsea Logan (UMES) had 16 putouts in three games for the Lady Hawks.

Micki Rodriguez (NSU) hit .500 and led the Spartans with seven hits and eight RBI in five wins last week.

Brittney Ruark (DSU) stuck out eight of 20 batters in five innings to pick up the win against Maryland E. Shore.

Yahamma White (NCAT) batted .625 in three games last week against South Carolina State and Winston-Salem State including five hits and four RBI.
