DSU?s Becton Earns Hall-Of-Fame Recognition

 Delaware State University tennis coach Alex Becton has been selected as a 2008 inductee into the Delaware Afro-American Sports Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony is set for Sat., April 19 at 5:30 p.m. at the Modern Maturity Center in Dover.




Delaware Afro-American Sports Hall of Fame President Harvey W. Riley says Becton will be enshrined for his achievements in the tennis arena, community involvement and lifelong accomplishment.

Becton is in his 10th year as head coach of the DSU men’s and women’s tennis teams. The 1973 Delaware State University graduate and Dover resident was a standout tennis player for the Hornets. Upon his graduation from DSU, Becton embarked on a 30-year career as an educator.

Throughout his teaching career, he also earned a reputation as a top amateur player throughout the Delaware Valley region. His community involvement includes mentoring and tennis instruction for area youth.

During Becton's tenure, a tennis player has received Delaware State's top academic award for student-athletes a total of seven times.
