UMES to Face Vanderbilt in Semifinal of NCAA Bowling Championship

 The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Lady Hawks will play Vanderbilt tomorrow in the semifinals of the 2008 NCAA Women’s Bowling Championship. The winner will advance to the final beginning at 8 p.m. ET live on ESPNU.

The Lady Hawks, who came into the championship as the seventh seed, topped second seeded Vanderbilt, 4-0 in the first round, and followed with a 4-3-1 win over Arkansas State in the second round.

Vanderbilt defeated Central Missouri, 4-2 in the loser’s bracket, for a chance to avenge their earlier loss to UMES. The Lady Hawks and Commodores battled back and forth with each team alternating wins. Tied at 2-2, Vanderbilt won the final two games and starved off elimination for one more day.

Saturday's semifinal begins at 5:30 p.m. ET and can be viewed via webcast on www.ncaa.com A UMES win would send the Lady Hawks to their second consecutive NCAA Women’s Bowling Championship final appearance. UMES advanced to last year’s final before falling to Vanderbilt 4-3.

Arkansas State defeated New Jersey City, 4-2, and will compete in tomorrow’s other semifinal match.
