Norfolk State University men’s basketball coach Anthony Evans was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Co-Coach of the Year by the web site CollegeInsider.com, the site announced Thursday.
In his first year as the Spartans’ head coach, Evans led NSU to a 16-15 record, just the program’s second winning season in the Division I era and first since 1998-99. The Spartans also achieved their best-ever MEAC record at 11-5 and tied for second place in the conference after being picked to finish ninth out of 11 teams. NSU’s No. 3 seed in the MEAC Tournament was also its highest ever, and the Spartans made just the third MEAC Tournament semifinals appearance in program history.
Evans shared the Coach of the Year honor with Morgan State’s Todd Bozeman. Bozeman was voted MEAC Coach of the Year by the league’s head coaches in March.
