SC State Women Drops Season Finale 64-58

South Carolina State ended its regular season with a 64-58 loss to visiting Winston-Salem State Thursday night at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.

The Lady Bulldogs, hoping to send head coach Tonya Mackey -- who is leaving at the end of the season -- and lone senior Brittany Baity out a winner in their final home appearance, instead fell behind early, rallied to tie late but were outscored 12-6 in the final 3:43 by the Lady Rams.

SC State, which played without leading scorer Marie Reid who fell ill right before the start of the contest, finished the regular season 12-16 overall and 9-7 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

Patience Figgins had 13 points, including seven in a row to deadlock the contest 52-all with 3:43 on the clock, to lead SC State. Jenell Moore added 12 points and 10 rebounds to tie teammate Lakeisha Scott for game rebounding honors, while Baity, in her final home appearance, contributed 11 points, six boards and four assists in the loss.

WSSU was paced by Rene Rector with 17 points and eight rebounds. Talneshia Kee added 15 points, Jalesa Byrd 13 and Nora Campbell 12.

The Lady Rams concluded their first season in the MEAC at 3-25.
