It was senior night for the Delaware State Hornets and seniors Roy Bright and Joe Dickens both scored in double figures in a 67-52 win over the Hawks of Maryland Eastern Shore. Bright finished with a double-double leading all scorers and rebounders with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Dickens added 12 points.
With the MEAC Basketball Tournament starting next week, this was a good momentum booster for the Hornets as they snapped a two game losing streak. “This team is young and we had a lot of growing pains this season, but for us to finish the regular season at 10-6 in conference play was a plus,” said Hornet head coach Greg Jackson.
The Hornets opened the game outscoring the Hawks 29-10 for their biggest lead of the game (19) at the 11:00 minute mark of the first half. That offensive burst was strengthened by the hot shooting of Bright who scored 13 of the Hornets first 22 points. His three point basket at the 14:00 minute mark gave him his 1,000th career point at DSU.
Also in double figures for the Hornets was Frisco Sandidge with 16 points and nine rebounds, along with Donald Johnson who added 11 points.
Pacing the Hawks was Marc Davis with 13 points and B.J. Nimocks and Ed Tyson with 11 each.
The win improved the Hornets to 10-6 in the MEAC and 13-15 overall, while the Hawks fell to 2-14 and 4-27.
