Men's Tennis 3/28/2008 4:00:00 AM MEAC Media Relations Longwood Women Down Lady Rams 7-0 The Longwood women’s tennis team shutout the Lady Rams 7-0 on Friday at the WSSU Tennis Complex and fall to 1-19 on the season. In doubles, Johanna Nunez and Gabrielle Benjamin kept up with Longwood’s Ashley Melson and Suzanne Edwards, but couldn’t pull off the win falling 8-6 at the No. 2 spot. Longwood took the 1-0 lead in the match after securing the wins at the first and third spots winning both by scores of 8-2. In singles, the Lancers continued to have success taking all six matches for the win. Laura Simon defeated Lady Ram Shannon Loughnan 6-1, 6-0, while Zsofia Jakab put away Laken Joyce 6-0, 6-1. Despite falling 6-0 in the first set, Terese Lavan rebounded in the second set and almost forced a third, but was edged by Ashley Melson 7-5 at the No. 4. Benjamin fell to Nasim Moadab 6-2, 6-1 and the Lancers got the sweep with two shutout victories at spots three and six. Winston-Salem State returns to action on Sunday, April 6 at 11:00 a.m. as they play host to the Eagles of Georgia Southern University at the WSSU Tennis Complex.
