Coppin State Lady Eagles To Face Maryland in First Round of NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Tournament

Coppin State, the 2008 MEAC Basketball Tournament Women’s Champion, will face top seeded Maryland Sunday March 23, in the first round of the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Tournament.

The game will take place approximately 30 minutes after the Noon match-up between Nebraska/Xavier in College Park, Maryland.

The Lady Eagles defeated top seeded North Carolina A&T, 72-70, to secure the conference tournament crown and the league’s automatic bid. CSU ended the regular season with a 13-3 MEAC record and are currently 22-11 overall.

Coppin State is making their third NCAA Tournament appearance in the last four years after earning the league's automatic bid in 2004-05 and 2005-06. It also marks the second time in its three appearances that Coppin State will face a team from the Atlantic Coast Conference having met North Carolina in the 2005 tournament.

Maryland finished the regular season with a 30-3 overall record and finished second in the ACC with a 13-1 mark. The Terps also were undefeated in the Comcast Center with a 19-0 home record.
