MEAC Bowling Championship Set For This Weekend

The 2008 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Bowling Championship will begin on Friday, March 21 at 9 a.m. at the Sparetimes Bowling Lanes in Hampton, Virginia.

Delaware State, Hampton, Maryland Eastern Shore, and Morgan State qualified from the MEAC Northern Division, while Bethune-Cookman, Florida A&M, Norfolk State and North Carolina A&T qualified from the MEAC Southern Division.

Only eight teams in the conference are eligible to play in the championship tournament. Howard (11-16), Coppin State (1-26) and South Carolina State (4-20) have been eliminated from tournament play based on their record in conference play.

Teams will start the competition on Friday with a qualifying round, which will determine seeding based on total pin fall. After teams are seeded, they will compete in a second qualifying round with baker matches and placed in a double-elimination bracket.

Play continues on Saturday with teams competing against each other in a best-of-seven baker style competition.

The MEAC Bowling Championship wraps up on Sunday, March 23 at 10:15 a.m. beginning with the semifinal round and concluding with the championship final. Admission is free and open to the public.
