Rattlers down Rams 68-61

The Winston-Salem State Rams held the Florida A&M Rattlers without a field goal for the final three minutes yet were unable to sneak out of Gaither Gymnasium with a 68-61 win on Saturday afternoon.

Despite shooting nearly 46 percent from the field in the second half, WSSU was no match for the Rattlers and their 8-of-14 (57 percent) shooting from 3-point range in the game’s final period.

FAMU senior guard Leslie Robinson led with a game high 25 points. He recorded 6-of-10 from long distance, including 5-of-6 in the second half.

For the first time this season the Rams finished with five players in double-digit scoring. Darrell Wonge led with 15 points. Brian Fisher and Darius Floyd added with 12 points each while Jamal Durham and Paul Davis recorded 10 points apiece in the loss.

Three-point shooting would prove to be the difference in the contest. Despite leading in nearly every statistical category, the Rams shot an unusually cold 1-of-12 from behind the 3-point arc.

WSSU drops to 11-16 on the season with the loss while Florida A&M improves to 12-16 with the victory. FAMU improves to 2-1 all-time versus the Rams. WSSU head coach Bobby Collins drops to 6-6 all-time versus the Rattlers with the loss.
