Tywain McKee scored a game-high 26 points and Coppin State ran its current winning streak to eight straight with an 85-66 MEAC victory over Maryland Eastern Shore on Saturday in W.P. Hytche Center.
McKee finished the game 7-of-14 from the floor and 9-of-11 from the free throw line to finish with his 17th straight double-figure scoring game.
Coppin State's (12-19, 7-8 MEAC) eight-game winning streak is the longest since CSU won 14 in a row during the 1997-98 season.
The Eagles also received 13 points from Julian Conyers, 12 from Antwan Harrison and 10 points and nine rebounds from Robert Pressey.
Maryland Eastern Shore (4-26, 2-13 MEAC) was paced by Ed Tyson who scored 25 points.
During the Eagles eight-game winning streak they have shot 50.3 percent from the floor in the second half, while shooting 40.2 percent in the first half. That trend continued on Saturday as the Eagles followed a 39.3 percent shooting effort in the first half by shooting 48.3 percent in the second period.
McKee scored eight quick points, including two three-point baskets, as Coppin State jumped out to an early 12-0 lead.
A layup by Tyson trimmed the Eagles lead to 16-11 with 10:13 remaining in the half, but Pressey and Mike Miller each scored four points during an 8-0 run that increased the CSU lead to 24-11.
Miller gave Coppin State a 10-point cushion with a layup at the 3:35 mark of the first half, but the Hawks closed to within 35-31 with 1:41 remaining.
A pair of free throws by Brian Chesnut gave Coppin State a 37-31 lead at the intermission.
Coppin State opened the second half much like they started the game and the resulting 10-0 run gave the Eagles a 47-32 lead with 15:45 to play.
The Eagles took their largest lead of the game at 23 points when A'Daeron Duncan drained a three-point basket with 6:58 left.
