Lady Rams 1-4 on First Day of Holiday Collegiate Classic

 Winston-Salem State got a strong start to their final tournament of the season when they posted a 1-4 record on day one of the Holiday Collegiate Classic in Bessemer, AL, Saturday.

The team two opened the two-day match play tournament with a win over Lincoln College, but had some struggles against some top competition, falling to Arkansas State, Vanderbilt, and Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference foes Bethune-Cookman and the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore.

The Lady Rams got the day started on a high note, defeating Lincoln University 712-680. The squad faced a much tougher challenge in their next match, taking on the Vanderbilt Commodores and taking a 1,027-721 loss in the match. The squad continued to struggle taking an 879-705 loss to Arkansas State. The Lady Rams went on to face some familiar competition, taking a 958-647 loss to the Bethune-Cookman Lady Wildcats and rounding out the day with a 1,073-750 loss to defending MEAC champion University of Maryland Eastern Shore.

The Lady Rams will return to action on Sunday to complete the second day of the tournament. Day two will feature all match play instead of the normal Baker games play.
