The Lady Bears jumped out to a 12-0 lead and held a 41-11 advantage at halftime, en-route to a 75-38 victory over Winston-Salem State, in a non-conference game at Hill Field House.
Shalane Price tied a career high with a game-high 20 points on and impressive 6-of-9 shooting, including six three-pointers, while Corin Adams added 17 points for the Lady Bears. Theresa Davis contributed to the act, recording her first career double-double with a career-high 13 points and grabbing a career-high 10 rebounds.
With the victory the Lady Bears ended a three-game losing skid, while improving to 12-9 on the season. Winston-Salem State (2-17) has now dropped five of its last six games.
The 38 points allowed are the fewest points scored by an opponent this season, surpassing the 40 points Morgan State allowed against North Carolina Central (11/21). Winston-Salem State’s 11 first half points were its second-lowest first half output, beating out the 11 points it had against Delaware State (1/14).
Morgan State began the game on fire in the first half, while holding the Lady Rams to just three field goals (3-17, 17-percent) in the first half. Winston-Salem State would finish the game shooting 32 percent (15-of-46), including 3-of-17 from three-point range (17-percent), while the Lady Bears shot 38 percent (25-of-65) for the game and 11-of-28 (39-percent) from 3-point range.
Morgan State outrebounded the Lady Rams, 44-32 and had 16 assists to Winston-Salem’s eight. Adams had a game-high six assists, while Jasmine Sellers (11 points) and Price each added three assists.
The host Lady Bears, who forced 25 turnovers, also tallied 17 steals, their second-most steals total this season. Adams led the way with five steals, while Price added four thefts.
Vontisha Woods and Nora Campbell led Winston-Salem State with a team-high eight points apiece. Woods added a team-high nine rebounds for the Lady Rams, who fell to 2-8 against MEAC opponents this season, including 0-3 on the road.
The Lady Bears return to action on Monday, Feb. 11, when they host South Carolina State in a MEAC game at 5:30 p.m. at Hill Field House. It will conclude Morgan State’s season-long four-game homestand.
