MEAC Announces Women's Basketball Weekly Honors

 University of Maryland Eastern Shore’s April McBride was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. Teammate Tiffany Reid was named the Defensive Player of the Week, while Norfolk State’s Raychele Payne earned Rookie of the Week honors.

McBride (Forward, 6-1, So., New Rochelle, New York) averaged a double-double of 15.5 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Lady Hawks to a 2-0 mark and extend their win streak to four against MEAC competitors. McBride posted 11 points, five rebounds, two blocks and three steals in a 77-51 win over Bethune-Cookman. She followed with 20 points, 19 rebounds and six assists in a 95-80 win on the road against Morgan State. This is the second time this season that McBride has earned Player of the Week accolades.

Payne (Guard, 5-6, Fr., Newport News, Virginia) averaged 22.5 points and 4.5 rebounds to help the Spartans to a 1-1 record last week. Payne scored a career-high 27 points to lead the Spartans in a 62-61 non-conference win over Winston-Salem State. She shot 58-percent from the field (10-of-17) and 87-percent (7-of-8) from beyond the arc in the victory. Her seven made 3-pointers tied a NSU single game record. In a loss to Hampton, Payne led the Spartans in scoring with 18 points, four rebounds and two assists.

Reid (Guard, 5-9, So., Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) totaled 18 rebounds (12 defensive), one block and three steals for the Lady Hawks in wins over Bethune-Cookman and Morgan State. Reid pulled down 12 rebounds (10 defensive) against Morgan State and added a game-high 24 points offensively.

Corin Adams (MSU) scored a team-high 20 points and a game-high five steals in a loss to Maryland Eastern Shore.

Amber Bland (NCAT) recorded 15 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, two blocks and three steals in a win over Howard.

Ta’Wuana Cook (NCAT) shot 55-percent from the field and averaged 22 points in two victories for the Lady Aggies.

Tamaya Daniels (How) posted her sixth double-double of the year with 19 points and 14 rebounds against North Carolina A&T.

Brittany Dodson (MSU) recorded a career-high 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field in a 95-80 loss to Maryland Eastern Shore.

Stephanie Foster (FAMU) tallied a double-double with 12 points and a career-high 16 rebounds in a non-conference win over Winston-Salem State.

Casey Morton (UMES) averaged 13.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in two victories for the Lady Hawks.

Marie Reid (SCSU) scored a career-high 27 points in a loss to North Carolina A&T.

Asha Santee (How) tallied 14 of 21 points in the second half, while shooting 6-of-14 in a loss to North Carolina A&T.

Rashida Suber (CSU) scored 32 points, five rebounds and four assists to lead the Lady Eagles in a win over Howard.
