Sophomore forward Frisco Sandidge got his first career double-double leading all scorers and rebounders with 16 points and 11 rebounds, as the Delaware State Hornets defeated the Wildcats of Bethune Cookman in a low scoring 49-44 MEAC contest. It was the Hornets second straight win improving to 9-4 in the MEAC and 12-13 overall, while the Wildcats dropped to 4-9 and 10-17.
The Hornets never trailed in the contest and led 25-11 at the half after holding the Wildcats to 33 percent (4-12) shooting from the floor. The biggest lead of the game was at the 4:53 mark when Jerel Chavis connected on a 3-pointer given the Hornets a commanding 42-26 lead.
The Wildcats attempted a last stand as they cut the lead to seven following a 16-6 run, 48-42, but it was too little too late for BCU who couldn’t overcome the narrow five point Hornets’ advantage. The DSU won the battle of the boards (27-24) and forced the Wildcats into 16 turnovers.
Also scoring in double figures for the Hornets was Roy Bright with 14 points.
BCU was led in scoring by John Holmes who finished with 10 points.
