Morgan State’s Tamara Rogers and Shalane Price each scored a game-high 18 points and Corin Adams and Brittany Dodson each added 11, as the Lady Bears defeated visiting Howard, 70-57, in a MEAC game Saturday afternoon at Hill Field House.
With the victory, the Lady Bears improved to 17-9 overall, 9-4 in the conference, while surpassing last season’s regular season win total of 16 games. With three regular season games remaining, Morgan State also moves one game closer to tying the school record of 18 wins on the Division I level, which it recorded last season.
The victory, which was Morgan State’s season-long sixth straight, also marked the Lady Bears’ 12th win over Howard in the series’ 54 meetings and their first season series sweep over the Lady Bison ever.
Morgan State, which led 26-22 at the break, held a four-point advantage (43-39) midway through the second half, before using a 17-3 run to take control of the game with its largest lead of the afternoon (60-42), following two free throws by Rogers with 5:53 left in the contest.
Morgan State finished the game connecting on 23-of-33 (69 percent) from the charity stripe, while Howard went 3-for-11 (27 percent). The Lady Bears also held a 50-38 rebounding advantage, with Theresa Davis pulling down a team-high nine boards. The Lady Bears, who finished with 14 steals, received a game-high four apiece from Davis and Rogers.
Adams notched three steals, giving her 176 for her career, and moving her past former Lady Bear, Lisa Mickens (1997-2001) for fifth-place all-time at Morgan State.
Howard (3-22, 2-10 MEAC) was led by Asha Santee’s team-high 17 points, while Tamaya Daniels and Shannon Carlisle chipped in with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Morgan State returns to action on Monday, Feb. 25, when it plays host to Hampton at 5:30 p.m. in a crucial MEAC game at Hill Field House for potential third-place in the league standings. The Lady Pirates, who entered the day in third place, suffered a 63-60 loss at Coppin State.
