MEAC Announces Women's Basketball Weekly Honors

 North Carolina A&T’s Nancy Rembert was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. Norfolk State’s Raychele Payne earned Rookie of the Week honors, while Delaware State’s Thea Littlepage earned Defensive Player of the Week accolades.

Rembert (Guard, 5-8, Sr., New Haven, Connecticut) was just shy of averaging a double-double with 15.5 points and nine rebounds in wins over Hampton and Florida A&M. Last week’s victories extended the Lady Aggies’ win streak to nine including a 9-0 mark in conference play. Rembert recorded 13 points and nine rebounds while shooting 50-percent from the floor (6-of-12) against Hampton. She followed with an 18 point performance against Florida A&M.

Payne (Guard, 5-6, Fr., Newport News, Virginia) tallied 46 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Spartans to a 1-1 mark last week. Scoring in double figures for the sixth time this season, she recorded 20 points in a 94-88 overtime win against Howard. In a 76-74 loss to Bethune-Cookman, Payne scored 18 of her 26 points in the second half and finished the game shooting 8-of-18 from the floor and 6-of-10 from behind the arc. This is the second consecutive week that Payne has earned Rookie of the Week accolades.

Littlepage (Center, 6-2, So., Upper Marlboro, Maryland) recorded eight blocks, four steals and 19 rebounds (10 defensive) to help the Lady Hornets to a 2-1 mark last week. Against Maryland Eastern Shore, Littlepage grabbed nine rebounds and swatted away three shots. She followed with six rebounds, five blocks and two steals in a 58-36 win over Hampton. The Lady Hornets held Hampton to 26-percent shooting from the field and their lowest output this season.

Other Top Performers:

Corin Adams (MSU) recorded 17 points, a game-high six assists, and five steals in a 75-38 non-conference win over Winston-Salem State.

Brittany Baity (SCSU) shot 6-of-9 from the field and recorded 16 points against Coppin State.

Amber Bland (NCAT) posted 14 points, seven rebounds, and five steals in a win over Hampton.

Theresa Davis (MSU) recorded her first career double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds in a non-conference win over Winston-Salem State.

Natasha Ferguson (B-CU) tallied her ninth double-double of the season with 14 points and 15 rebounds in a 76-74 win over Norfolk State.

Stephanie Foster (FAMU) scored a career-high 26 points in a 69-53 loss to North Carolina A&T.

Demetria Frank (B-CU) hit the game winner against Norfolk State to end an 11-game MEAC losing skid for the Lady Wildcats.

April McBride (UMES) recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 18 points and 13 rebounds in a 105-87 win over Howard.

Casey Morton (UMES) averaged 15.6 points and four rebounds in three games for the Lady Hawks last week.

Shalane Price (MSU) averaged 14.5 points and 5.5 rebounds to lead the Lady Bears to a 1-1 mark last week.

Tiffany Reid (UMES) matched a career-high with 24 points in a 105-87 win over Howard.

Jalessa Sams (NCAT) shot 50-percent from the field and tallied 31 points and 18 rebounds in two victories for the Lady Aggies.

Danelle Tate (NSU) averaged 19 points and 10.5 rebounds for the Spartans last week.
