Lady Pirates Get First Win, 64-52 Over Howard

Hampton picked up its first win of the season Saturday night at the Convocation Center, beating MEAC rival Howard 64-52.

  

The game was only tied once, at 22 with 4:02 left in first half after Ashlee Finley knocked down both of her free throws.

 

Howard?s Zykia Brown scored the first points of the game on a 3-point play, with a jumper and making her free throw with 19:22 on the clock.

 

Hampton (1-5, 1-0 MEAC) forced 21 turnovers and survived 21 turnovers of their own and several lapses on offensive and defensive ends. Their largest lead of the night came in the second half with 14:56 on clock and the Lady Pirates up by 16.

 

The Lady Pirates shot 20-of-62 (32.3 percent) from the floor and 3-of-14 (21.4 percent) from 3-point range for the game, while connecting on 21-of-35 free throw attempts (60 percent). The Lady Bison shot 19-of-52 (36.5 percent) from the floor and 3-of-8 (37.5 percent) from the three-point range for the game with 11-of-17 (64.7 percent).

 

Chinyere Ukoh had her second double-double of the season with 22 rebounds and 19 points. Freshman sensation Jericka Jenkins had 16 points, two rebounds and three steals in 34 minutes played.
