Spartans Drop Sixth Straight Game, Fall 77-41 at Fordham

Becky Peters had a double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds and added a game-high six steals to help Fordham to a 77-41 victory over Norfolk State on Sunday in the opening game of the Fordham Holiday Tournament at Rose Hill Gym.

Fordham (6-6) shot 48.3 percent (29-of-60) for the game and led 32-18 at halftime. NSU (0-6) came within five, 23-18, with 3:13 left in the first half, but could get no closer for the rest of the game. The Spartans connected on 18 of their 66 shots (27.3 percent) from the floor for the game.

The Spartans had a season-low 19 turnovers, while forcing 23 Fordham miscues. It was the first time this season that a Spartan opponent had more turnovers.

Randall Hurst (12), Kristina Bell (11) and Annie Zopf (10) all scored in double figures for Fordham. Zopf and Kassie Humphries each had four assists and Tiffany Stokes had a game-high four blocks.

Ebony Gibbs was the Spartans' leading scorer, tallying 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the floor. She added four steals and three assists in 29 minutes. Raychelle Payne had nine points, four rebounds and two steals.

NSU will wrap up tournament play on Monday at 1 p.m. by taking on the loser of the Colgate-Bryant game.
