SC State Falls to Florida International, 64-56

Monika Bosilj had 27 points to lead three Florida International (FIU) players in double figures as the host Golden Panthers earned a 64-56 victory over visiting SC State Tuesday at the US Century Bank Arena.

Michelle Gonzalez added 16 points and Jasmine Jenkins recorded a double-double, 10 points-11 rebounds in the victory which gave FIU its third win of the season, (3-8).

Senior center Marie Reid had a good outing as she put up team highs in points-15 and rebounds-7.  Junior Sophilia Hipps scored 11 points and freshman LaTeia Brailey came off the bench to contributed six points as the Lady Bulldogs fell to 2-5 on the season.

“You can’t win a game shooting 35 percent from the field and 19 percent from three-point range,” said first year head coach Doug Robertson.  “We finally got our free-throw shooting together but that was the only thing that did go right for us today.”

SC State trailed FIU 64-56 at the half and FIU went up by 14 (39-25) at the 18 minute mark of the second half.  The Lady Bulldogs managed to pull within seven (46-39) mid-way through the second half but could not get any closer, eventually falling by eight, 64-56.

SC State will have seven days off for the Christmas Holiday before returning to action.  The Lady Bulldogs will travel to Boca Raton, FL next Monday, Dec. 29, to take on the Owls of FAU in a non-conference match-up. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
