MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY BASKETBALL HONORS

 

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., December 22, 2008 ? Florida A&M’s Lamar Twitty was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.  Yannick Crowder of Florida A&M was selected as the Rookie of the Week while North Carolina A&T’s Thomas Coleman was named the Defensive Player of the Week.

Twitty (G/F, 6-4, 205, Sr., Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) recorded a game-high 27 points shooting 9-of-18 from the field in the Rattlers 57-67 loss to Texas A&M.  He added two rebounds, three assists and connected on 3-of-5 baskets from 3-point range in the loss.

Crowder (F, 6-8, 215, Fr., Stone Mountain, Ga.) shot 4-of-5 from the field with eight points and seven rebounds in the Rattlers loss.  He also tallied one assist, one blocked shot and one steal.  This is Crowder’s second straight Rookie of the Week honor.

Coleman (F/C, 6-9 220, So., Louisville, Ky.) tallied six rebounds, 10 blocked shots and three steals in the Aggies two non-conference matchups against Tulane and Evansville.  He matched a season high of eight blocked shots, with three rebounds, two assists and one steal against Tulane.
