Whitney Hill led three Lady Pirates in double figures with a team-high 15 points, while fellow teammate Chinyere Ukoh added 14 points as Hampton rolled past William & Mary, 72-59 on Friday in Kaplan Arena.
The victory was Hampton’s second in a row, as the Lady Pirates moves to 2-5 on the season, William & Mary dropped to 5-4 overall.
The teams went to halftime trailing 33-32. The Lady Pirates came out in the second half with a burst of energy. Hampton made huge strides when William & Mary’s leading scorer, Tiffany Benson, left the game with an injury with 16:20 to play in the second half.
The score was tied at 37 points with 16:05 to play, but that was turning point for the Lady Pirates, who went on a 9-0 run to take command of the game and seal the deal.
Friday marked the first time this season the Lady Pirates have scored at least 70 points in a game.
Hill was 5-for-10 from the floor on the night, while Ukoh pulled down five rebounds to go with her 14 points. Freshman Jericka Jenkins added 11 points for the Lady Pirates, who shot 46.8 percent from the floor on the night. Ashlee Finley and Laura Lewis each led the Lady Pirates in rebounds with six apiece.
Kelly Heath led the Tribe in scoring with 12 points on 5-for-13 shooting. William & Mary shot just 36.9 percent from the floor and was outrebounded 42-36.
The Lady Pirates will play another CAA team on Sunday, as they travel to UNC-Wilmington trying to expand their winning streak to three.
