Liz Moult recorded a match-high 11 kills and had a hitting percentage of .733 to lead the visiting George Washington Colonials to a 3-0 (25-12, 25-19, 25-12) non-conference victory over Morgan State on Tuesday evening at Hill Field House, thus spoiling the Lady Bears’ season finale.
The loss marked the third straight for Morgan State (3-25), which closed out the season losing seven of its last eight matches. The Lady Bears, who completed their worst season in 19 years ? when the 1989 squad finished 6-25 and placed sixth in the MEAC North Division ? also finished the 2008 campaign going 1-6 overall at home and 1-10 in non-conference matches.
The Colonials’ Alyssa Valentine notched a match-high 25 assists, while Maggie Wright led the team with eight digs. George Washington finished with nine service aces with Abby Syverson and Jenny O’Brien recording three aces each. However, the Colonials also had 11 service errors. Morgan State finished with three service aces and had 12 service errors.
George Washington (14-9) ended the match with 29 kills and a hitting percentage of .318, while holding Morgan State to a hitting percentage of -.012 and 20 kills. The guests also held a 4.0 to 2.5 blocking advantage over the Lady Bears.
Rhyan Shy led the Lady Bears with nine kills and had two of the team’s three service aces. Erin Cox added six kills, while Christa Rogers finished with 16 assists. Dina Beamon collected a match-high 10 digs for Morgan State, while Cox and Shy finished with four digs apiece.
