Coppin State senior Tywain McKee has been nominated to receive the Bob Cousy Award as the top point guard in the nation as presented by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

McKee, who leads the Eagles averaging 18.5 points per game, joins Darren Collison of UCLA, Edgar Sosa of Louisville, Levance Fields of Pittsburgh, Ronald Steele of Alabama and Ty Lawson of North Carolina, among others, as nominees for the prestigious award.

"It truly is an honor to be included among the best point guards in the country," McKee said. "But I'm going to continue to work hard to make myself, and my team, better. My focus is on helping Coppin State win games and whatever individual honors come with that will just be a bonus."

Past winners include DJ Augustin of Texas, Dee Brown of Illinois and Raymond Felton of North Carolina.

The Bob Cousy Award presented by The Hartford is given to the top collegiate male basketball point guard annually spanning across all divisions within the game by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

The selection criteria emphasize leadership, team work, success, and fundamentals as being critical parts for the game of basketball as a point guard.  Nominations are solicited from across the country from head coaches and the winner is selected by a Blue Ribbon Selection Committee made up of the biggest names in college basketball.

The finalists for the award will be announced on February 1 by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
