Allums, Spartans Dominate WSSU, Win 3-0

Breanna Allums had a match-high 17 kills and hit a career-best .727 as the Norfolk State volleyball team defeated Winston-Salem State 3-0 (25-15, 25-11, 25-13) on Sunday afternoon at Echols Hall.

 

NSU (9-22) dominated every aspect of the match. The Spartans tallied 47 kills, 44 assists, 37 digs, six service aces and hit .425 for the match. WSSU (4-23) hit .025 and recorded 16 kills, 16 assists, 22 digs and two aces. Allums alone had more kills than the entire WSSU team.

 

For WSSU, Annika Barnwell had eight kills and three digs. Valentina Pushkina had 12 assists, while Georgette Allen and Ebony Brown had eight digs each.

 

Angie Clewis hit .500 with nine kills for the Spartans. Nicole Kessner led all players with 37 assists and added nine digs, three kills, and two aces. Solange Honore had a match-high 10 digs.

 

The Spartans return to action on Wednesday night when they host Hampton at 7 p.m. Seniors Shardonay Blueford and Yolanda Roberts will be honored prior to the match.
