Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) men's and women's cross-country teams competed at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional meet Saturday on the campus of Princeton University.
The Lady Hawks were 24th and the Hawks, while not fielding a complete team thus not earning a place in the 10-kilometer event, had some strong performances.
Senior Merrecia James paced the women's team with a time of 24:24 in the six-kilometer race, finishing 86th overall. Sophomore Peter Sang was the top finisher for the men in 21:34, crossing in 64th position.
UMES sophomore Eunice Jones finished in 24:56, followed by junior Tamica Thomas in 25:31, and senior Celia Whyte in 26:40.
Freshman Cynthia Anais, junior Tiffany Webb and freshman Jessica Abrantes finished in 30:32, 30:43 and 30:43, respectively, to round out UMES's women's entrants.
Sophomore Amon Kiprotich came in with a time of 36:00 for the men, followed by freshman Shadrack Maritim, who crossed in 36:56 and senior Solomon Kirongo in 37:15.
