DSU Sweeps S.C. State, Will Face UMES in Semifinal Round

The Lady Hornets of Delaware State swept South Carolina State 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-22) on Friday in the quarterfinals of the 2008 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championship tournament, held in Holland Hall on the campus of Hampton University.

 

There were five ties and four lead changes in the second game, and South Carolina State (13-23) kept things even closer in the third set, as the lead changed hands four times and the scored was tied 10 times.

 

Erica Tajchman led the Lady Hornets (16-10) with 15 kills and a .263 attack percentage. Cassandra Joyner, a First Team All-MEAC selection, had 11 kills. Martina Ferrari had all 33 of her team’s assists, and Ashley Herman recorded 12 digs. Elisa Hermann added 11 digs for Delaware State.

 

Shabree Roberson had a team-high 10 kills for the Lady Bulldogs, recording a .714 attack percentage. Bria Brimmer had 25 of South Carolina State’s 29 assists, and Peri Ligons recorded 19 digs on defense. Lauren Harris also poured in 10 digs in the loss.

 

Delaware State, the third seed in the MEAC northern division, will face Maryland Eastern Shore in Saturday’s semifinal round. The match will begin tomorrow at noon in Holland Hall.
