The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) will host the 2008 MEAC Volleyball Championship tournament beginning at noon Friday-Sunday, November 14-16 in Holland Hall at Hampton (Va.) University.
For the second straight year, Maryland Eastern Shore earned the top seed in the north after posting an undefeated record in conference play (10-0). The Lady Hawks have advanced to the championship match four times, including last season’s 3-1 loss to the defending tournament champion Florida A&M Lady Rattlers.
Florida A&M secured the top southern seed after posting a 7-1 mark in MEAC play. The Lady Rattlers have won eight MEAC volleyball crowns and will vie for their ninth conference title in ten years.
The MEAC Volleyball Championship tournament begins on Friday, November 14 with two noon matches. Maryland Eastern Shore (N1) will face off against Norfolk State (S4) and South Carolina State (S2) will compete against Delaware State (N3). Florida A&M (S1), will contend with Hampton (N4), while Bethune-Cookman (S3) will battle Howard (N2) in matches beginning at 3:30 p.m.
Competition will continue on Saturday with the semi-final rounds at noon and 3:30 p.m. The volleyball championship tournament will conclude at noon on Sunday, November 16.
The MEAC will sponsor a food drive with proceeds benefiting the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia. Fans are asked to support by donating nonperishable items during their entry to the championship. For more information on what items can be accepted, please visit www.MEACsports.com.
The MEAC will also host Student Day on Friday, Youth Day on Saturday and MEAC Championship Day on Sunday. Fans are encouraged to come and support their favorite MEAC teams. Admission is free and open to the public. All matches will be held in Holland Hall.
