Third time’s a charm for the SC State women’s volleyball team as they defeated North Carolina Central, 3-1, (25-17, 17-25, 25-17, 25-22) in its season finale in Dukes Gymnasium. Tonight’s victory marks the first time in three tries this season that the Lady Bulldog defeated the Lady Eagles.
Sophomore Jarne Gleaton and freshman Shabree Roberson led SC State in kills with 15 and 13 respectively. Freshman Lauren Harris picked up a game-high 15 digs while freshman Bria Brimmer put up 36 assists as the SC State improved to 13-21 on the season.
Avaniki Campbell led North Carolina Central (6-25) in kills with nine while Kristan Fields picked up 10 digs to lead the Lady Eagles defensively.
SC State will have three days of practice before traveling to Hampton, VA to participate in the 2008 MEAC Volleyball Championships. The championship tournament, which is scheduled for Friday-Sunday, Nov. 14-16, will be held at Holland Hall on the campus of Hampton University. The Lady Bulldogs enters as the number two seed in the southern division and will face Delaware State who is seeded third in the northern division.
