For the third straight match and second consecutive, Delaware State battled for a 3-2 (20-25, 13-25, 25-13, 25-21, 15-13) victory, this time, against Quinnipiac (3-26, 0-5 NEC). With their third straight win, the Hornets improve their overall record to 13-10 (6-3 MEAC).
The Hornets showed how tired they were in the first two sets as they combined for 17 kills and 14 errors for a .053 attack percentage to fall behind quickly two games to nothing.
DSU, led by Cassandra Joyner and Erica Tajchman would show much resilience to battle back. In the third set, Joyner recorded six kills to propel the Hornets back within one game.
Tajchman would come up big in the fourth set, tallying seven kills to help Delaware State tie the match at 2-2.
In the fifth set, both teams battled back and forth until a costly reception error by Quinnipiac allowed the Hornets to take the set and the match.
Joyner led the way offensively for DSU with 18 kills and eight digs, nearly missing her second double-double in as many days. Tajchman added 12 kills in the effort.
Sarah Wheatcroft had another strong game passing with 37 assists.
For the Bobcats, Stephanie Biediger recorded 14 kills and 8 digs, nearly missing a double-double of her own.
The Hornets will host their third match in as many days, tomorrow, November 2, against Coppin State. Game time is slated for 2 p.m.
